Job Description

 

SOS Security is a values based modern security services company. We provide Fire Warden/Waking Watch Services to four buildings consisting of residential property spaces operating in North London, England

We are seeking a well-presented, articulate, reliable team player to provide frontline Fire Warden for our contract in North London N4.

 

Hours of work every week:

Saturday 21:00pm-09:00am; &

Sunday  21:00pm-09:00am.

Total 24 hours per week

 

Pay Rate

£11.95 per hour

 

Duties will include:

Duties of a fire warden or fire marshal

This will depend on the nature and size of the premises. However, the principal fire warden or fire marshal responsibilities are:

  • Making sure everyone evacuated the building in a safe and timely manner.
  • Making sure the area is visually searched to ensure no one is left inside.

Additional responsibilities for marshals and wardens include:

  • Monitoring fire safety through frequent visual checks of fire escape routes, fire exit and final fire exit doorsets for obstructions, defects, signage and operational conditions.
  • Monitoring their areas, with frequent visual checks on fire equipment.
  • Ensuring the people in their area can hear the fire alarms.
  • Assisting the responsible person with the fire risk assessment.
  • Assisting the responsible person with the emergency plan.
  • Giving fire briefings to occupants to ensure everyone understands what to do in the event of a fire, fire safety action instructions, and familiarization with fire escape routes and assembly points.
  • Assisting management, HR or occupational professionals with personal emergency evacuation plans (PEEPs).
  • Reporting faults and unsafe practices.
  • Controlling the safe evacuation of their area.
  • Supporting fire evacuation drills.

Protection of Life

  • Monitoring of health and safety compliance (wearing of PPE)
  • Reporting or dealing with maintenance requirements (slip hazards)
  • Monitoring of alarm systems.

Protection of Property and Premises

This might be in a specific situation for example at a burglary, fire or flood situation. However, day-to-day functions such as monitoring of alarm systems, ensuring security equipment is working properly and vigilant patrolling all contribute to the protection of property and premises.

Preventing loss and waste

Loss can be suffered by an organization in different ways:

  • Theft and other criminal activity by staff, visitors etc. can be prevented or reduced by searching staff, visitors and vehicles in accordance with assignment instructions
  • Breach of confidentiality whether intentional or not can have serious implications both to the organization and the security officer. Confidential information should never be discussed with anyone including family and friends. The disclosure of confidential information could lead to criminal proceedings
  • Waste through the unnecessary use of electrical equipment (lights, heaters etc) and the unauthorized use of telephone systems or computers. Security officers have a responsibility for waste management and measures to reduce wastage, which are required by environmental policies, may include activities such as switching of un-required electrical equipment, i.e. lighting, computers and machinery, if authorized to do so.

Preventing Crime

Within the security officer’s area of responsibility there is the potential for many forms of crime to be committed, some more prevalent than others, depending on the type of site, for example:

  • Robbery.
  • Burglary (break-ins).
  • Criminal damage including graffiti.
  • Theft.
  • Deception.
  • Assault.
  • Breach of peace.
  • Public order offenses.

Requirements

  • Vigilant and comprehensive patrols, noting and reporting unusual activity, suspicious people, vehicles etc (the presence of an alert security officer acts as a major deterrent to most criminals).
  • Implementing search procedures in accordance with assignment instructions.
  • Monitoring and responding to alarms, CCTV systems.
  • Controlling access to and exit from the site.
  • Ensuring security equipment is working properly e.g. security lighting.
  • Reporting possible crime risks e.g. windows left open/pallets left by fence lines creating climbing frames etc.
  • Making suggestions to improve crime prevention measures.
  • A passion for customer care and a sensitivity to clients needs.
  • In-date SIA license.
  • Account for previous 5 years. 
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Experience of working in a busy customer service environment within the hospitality or customer services industry or customer services industry or ideally corporate security. 
  • Experience in customer facing environments. 
  • Flexible for covering additional shifts.
  • Enthusiasm and motivation to be a performance-driven team player.
  • Ability to work on your own initiative.
  • Excellent organizational skills and a willingness to work flexibly and to tight deadlines.
  • Data management and strong record keeping skills.
